The Tim Jenks Band is a flexible line-up. Over time a series of talented musicians have jammed with the Band. This is the current list of sidesmen:
Awesome Newsome says farewell
'It is with regret that I announce that George Newsome has played his final gig with the ‘TJ Band’.
A huge crowd turned out at the Claregate ‘Room 4 The Blues’ on Friday 24th April to witness one the great jam sessions the evening has become popular for. George and his wife Pat leave for Cornwall and head off to a retirement of walking the coastal paths. They move house on Wednesday 6 May leaving a bit of a vacuum in the line-up that calls for some masterful blues shuffle drumming.
George was one of the UK’s blues pioneers in the 1960’s when he helped form the ‘Climax Chicago Blues Band’ – later to shorten its name to ‘Climax Bluesband’. The band toured the UK and Europe relentlessly during the 60’s and 70’s George recording 5 albums with Climax before leaving in 1973. He teamed up with me in 2006 on a regular basis and recorded 2 albums with me – ‘Tear Down The Walls’ and ‘Realms of Glory’ - both achieving excellent reviews in the Cross Rhythms directory.
The band line-up as always been somewhat of a moving feast depending on personnel availability - with Dan Clark and Danny Jenks filling the driving seat when more hard rock was required, but George remains one of the masters of blues swing and shuffle and I can honestly say that we have shared some fabulous spontaneous sessions together at the ‘Room 4 The Blues’ – which George has help build to be Wolverhampton’s top blues jam night. He will be greatly missed – Mick and I will be taking stock over the next few weeks to see who offers to step into George’s place. He’s a tough act to follow when we’re getting down to blues business!
Meanwhile we hope he makes it back to Wolverhampton in the future for another jam…'
